Alcayota

Even though this species was cultivated by the Aztecs more than 4,000 years ago, who called it "tzilicayotli" ignored its exact origin; Test different lines point to Mexico or the Andean region, but has not been able to confirm any of the hypotheses. Linguistic evidence favor a Mexican, because the name is used almost universally Nahuatl origin; however, the oldest archaeological remains preserved come from Peru. With the arrival of the Spaniards, it led to alcayota name and other common names that are known today. Today it is grown from Chile and Argentina to the southern United States and in the Mediterranean region of Europe, where he was born in the seventeenth century. The Europeans seem to have introduced in India, Japan and the Philippines, which are now major producers. Meanwhile the "Nut" is a native of the Middle East and its culture is ancient. It was introduced in Northern and Western Europe very early, perhaps before Roman times and in the Americas by the seventeenth century.
